THE BIO-ORGANIC
posted on 04 Sep 2011 07:12 by tohtae69Bioorganic chemistry is a rapidly growing scientific discipline which combines organic chemistry and biochemistry. While biochemistry aims at understanding biological processes using chemistry, bioorganic chemistry attempts to expand organic-chemical researches (that is, structures, synthesis, and kinetics) toward biology. When investigating metalloenzymes and cofactors, bioorganic chemistry overlaps bioinorganic chemistry. Biophysical organic chemistry is a term used when attempting to describe intimate details of molecular recognition by bioorganic chemistry.
Bioorganic chemistry is that branch of life science, which deals with the study of biological processes using chemical methods.

Mangosteen : A powerful anti oxidant.
The Mangosteen tree, an evergreen that grows in tropical Southeast Asia, produces the powerful “superfruit” Mangosteen. Locals have long-consumed the Mangosteen fruit as a dessert and used it as a source in traditional medicine. Today, the rest of the world is seeing it become a popular ingredient for use in a plethora of nutritional and cosmeceutical applications.
The Mangosteen fruit is rich in iron, fiber, protein, calcium, potassium and Vitamins C, B1, B2 and B6. Perhaps most interesting is its xanthone content. Xanthones are very powerful anti-oxidants and have only recently been discovered (1990’s). Research has shown that these xanthones have several health benefits including anti-inflammatory properties. Not surprisingly, the Mangosteen is being used in skin care to target disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. Several independent labs are now investigating the use of Mangosteen in OTC drugs.
